Bangor Municipal Golf Course is a proud member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.  In 2013, Bangor Muni became only the second golf course in the state of Maine to achieve this honor and have since been re-certified twice.  Certification requires sound environmental practices, out reach and education, and an on going effort to be a great steward of the environment and all wildlife.

Golf courses are the perfect habitat for the eastern bluebird and if you are on the lookout, you will see them in several locations on the property.  We have over 30 bluebird houses that are constantly maintained and inventoried each year.

In 2018 Bangor Muni was a pioneer in the Monarch's in the Rough Program.   When playing Kelly #8, look at the top of the hill and you will see a sign identifying where we created habitat for this magnificent creature.  We even named the hole after them!

BMGC has allowed nearly 7 acres of land to return to its natural state.  By ceasing management of these non-playing areas, we have reduced carbon emissions, fertilizer and pesticide use, and created several natural habitats for rodents and small mammals to thrive.
