This year we were part of a Vernal Pool Study conducted by University of Maine Graduate Students. UMaine chose our facility based on the fact that we were an Audubon Sanctuary and that we were willing to give them total access to the facility anytime they wished. There is some interesting data here. For one, we were not aware of where Wood Frogs laid their eggs and the importance of vernal pools. Second, they were not always where you expected them to be. One egg mass was in a small pond (to be expected), and the other was in a small area of spring overflow that we never would have thought would be ideal for these amphibians to lay their eggs. If you download the full PDF you can see some great trail camera photos as well as all the data collected at our facility. Thanks so much to the Carly and the rest of the students for conducting this on our property!
